Grade Levels K, 1st and 2nd
My amazing detectives have already been cracking the case of their feelings using the Little Spot of Feelings. It was time to practice separating the clues (feelings) from the whole mystery (emotions). To put on empathy hats to become an EMOTION coach!
This activity revisited what we learned about feelings and built a stronger bond between feelings and emotions so we could solve our problems more easily.
You might need to tackle this case in two parts, but that just means more detective fun! Get ready to solve the mystery of feelings and build a bridge of empathy with your class!
Discussion Anchor(s)
Discussion:
Crack the Feeling Code: After reading the Little Spot of Empathy. We became good detectives and used our Situation Cards to connect how we felt using our Feelings Chart. (Create an Anchor Chart).
Emotions Coach to the Rescue: Then watching the Emotions Coach helped us connect our feelings to the bigger emotions creating a paper chain. The Emotions cards are tied to those in the book to help you connect.
Empathy: Superpower Activy! With the Little Spot of Empathy poem by our side, we'll learn all about this amazing superpower called empathy. It lets us see things from someone else's perspective, just like looking through a special detective lens!
Building Bridges of Understanding: We then revisited the Little Spot of Empathy. This helped us build a strong chain of understanding – the stronger the chain, the more empathy we can share with others!
Social-Emotional: The Little Spot Book series is a big part of our classroom. We have been working on identifying our feelings and how to battle them with healthy responses this year.
The Audience: Movement breaks are a must for primary so we take a break and sing the Scribble Spot Song:)
Tech Time: Check out the Balance Room!
Read Aloud: A Little Spot of Feelings: Emotion Detective, A Little Spot of Empathy.
Hands-On Hooray: Let students build the Chain of Empathy with Friends
Art: Add color to the Emotions Chain that represents the Feelings Associated with them.
Why Multi-Resource Lessons Matter!
Multi-resource lessons are a Teaching Toolbox.
Ready to spice up your lessons? Here are some tips:
Know your audience: Tailor your resources to their age, interests, and learning styles.
Mix and match: Don't be afraid to get creative! Combine traditional methods with modern technology, hands-on activities with thought-provoking discussions.
Curate with care: Choose resources that are accurate, engaging, and relevant to your lesson objectives.
Make it interactive: Encourage students to interact with the video resources, ask questions, and share their insights through discussion or in graphic organizers or workbooks.
Identify their Superhero Skills!: Every child has a unique learning superpower. Some zoom through sight words, others build bridges with Legos, even, making it across the Monkey bars requires the skill of being prepared for the next rung and never giving up.
By using different resources, you cater to diverse learning styles, helping each child unlock their special skills and build confidence as they conquer learning challenges.
